Clear Mountain Water, Open Valleys, and Classic Fly Fishing on the Stillwater River
The Stillwater River is a standout Montana trout stream — flowing out of the Absaroka-Beartooth foothills through wide valleys, cottonwood bottoms, and productive riffle-run water.
Known for its clarity and approachable flows, the Stillwater offers excellent opportunities for dry flies, nymphing, and streamers throughout the season. The river strikes a rare balance: big enough to hold healthy trout populations, yet intimate enough to read water and fish methodically.
From early summer through fall, anglers can expect consistent action, visual eats, and room to spread out — making the Stillwater an ideal choice for those looking to avoid crowds while still fishing prime Montana water.
Whether you’re focused on technical dry-fly presentations or covering water efficiently, the Stillwater River delivers a rewarding day on the water.
