Bitterroot River Guided Fly Fishing Trips

Pristine Waters, Scenic Valleys, and Legendary Dry Fly Fishing on the Bitterroot

The Bitterroot River is a true Montana classic — flowing north through the breathtaking Bitterroot Valley, framed by the Sapphire and Bitterroot Mountains. With shallow riffles, deep pools, and stunning views around every bend, it’s a river that feels wild, untamed, and full of opportunity.

Each season brings fresh excitement — from early spring stoneflies to late fall Blue Winged Olives — and there’s no shortage of eager trout waiting to rise.

Whether you prefer casting dries in riffles, hunting big trout with streamers, or drifting a nymph through a deep run, the Bitterroot delivers an unforgettable day on the water.

Why Fish the Bitterroot River?

The Bitterroot River offers one of the most diverse fly fishing experiences in Montana — and it’s one of the few larger rivers where you can easily wade or float.

  • Early season brings the famous Skwala hatch — dry fly eats in February and March.

  • Summer offers Golden Stones, PMDs, Tricos, and hopper action across the river.

  • Fall lights up with Mahoganies, October Caddis, and Blue Winged Olives.

  • Shallow, wadeable structure gives anglers easy access to prime runs and riffles.

  • Big enough to float comfortably, but intimate enough to read and fish every seam.

From beginners chasing their first dry fly eats to seasoned anglers stalking sippers, the Bitterroot offers something special in every season.
